Soludo’s Aide Challenges Peter Obi’s Claim Of Godfather Relationship With Governor’s Children

A fresh clarification has emerged over the relationship between former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and the family of his successor, Governor Chukwuma Soludo, with the Anambra First Lady’s media aide disputing Obi’s claim that he and his wife are godparents to Soludo’s children.

The media aide to the Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, Daniel Ezeigwe, described the claim as false, insisting that the actual godparent relationships between the two families are different from what Obi reportedly stated.

Obi had made the claim while speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference in Enugu State on Friday, September 25, where he said he and his wife were godparents to Soludo’s children and maintained that he held no grudges against the governor despite their political differences.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Ezeigwe clarified that Dr Nonye Soludo is the confirmation godmother to Obi’s daughter, while Mrs Margaret Obi, wife of the former governor, is the baptismal godmother to one of Soludo’s daughters.

The statement further maintained that neither Peter Obi nor Governor Soludo had served as a godparent to the other’s children.

Ezeigwe suggested that Obi might have misspoken but said the clarification became necessary following the circulation of the video and enquiries from members of the public.

He also stated that the relationship between the two families remains cordial, urging that the facts be accurately represented.
