COOU Takes Staff Promotion Online, Deepens Digital Transformation

Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, has taken another bold step in its digital transformation journey with the successful conduct of a promotional Information and Communication Technology, ICT, examination for its non academic staff.
The examination, held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the University’s E Library, formed part of the requirements for the 2026 staff appraisal and promotion exercise.
Beyond the examination itself, the exercise marked a significant shift in the University’s approach to staff development, career progression and administrative efficiency, with digital competence now taking a central role in preparing its workforce for the demands of the modern workplace.
The exercise was coordinated by the Director of ICT, Prof. J. P. Iloh, and his team, who ensured a seamless, orderly and transparent process. Participants completed the examination in a conducive environment, supported by the University’s technical team.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, FNIPR, also visited the E Library to monitor the exercise and interact with participating staff.
The Vice Chancellor commended the staff for embracing digital learning and described ICT competence as an essential requirement for a modern university workforce.
She reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to building a workforce that is equipped to thrive in an increasingly technology driven global environment.
For COOU, the exercise represents more than a requirement for promotion. It is part of a wider institutional transformation aimed at moving the University from analogue operations to a more efficient, productive and digitally driven system.
The initiative is also in line with the Vice Chancellor’s vision of repositioning COOU as “the Now University and of the Future,” where technology serves as a catalyst for innovation, excellence and improved service delivery.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the examination, describing it as a progressive initiative that will enhance their professional competence and prepare them for the realities of the digital age.
As COOU continues its journey from analogue to digital, the University is demonstrating that the transformation of an institution begins not only with new facilities and technology, but also with the people who drive its daily operations.
