Soludo Inspects Onitsha Main Market Reconstruction, Warns Against Street Trading After Completion

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has inspected the ongoing reconstruction and modernization of the Onitsha Main Market as part of efforts to transform the commercial hub into a world class trading environment.
During the inspection, the Governor interacted with traders to assess the progress of the project. The traders expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work, expressing confidence that the market will be ready ahead of the 2026 Christmas shopping season.

The reconstruction project is designed to improve infrastructure, sanitation, security and overall orderliness within one of West Africa’s largest markets.
Governor Soludo, however, warned that street trading and other unauthorized commercial activities around the market will no longer be tolerated once the project is completed. He stressed that the government will strictly enforce regulations to keep the market environment orderly, improve traffic flow and maintain the high standards expected of a modern commercial centre.
