Work Begins on Geneva Road as Soludo Intensifies Awka Urban Renewal

Construction work has commenced on Geneva Road, also known as Second Abakaliki Street, Awka, following the approval of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, as part of ongoing efforts to modernise infrastructure and transform the Anambra State capital.

The road project, which began on August 5, is one of several urban renewal initiatives aimed at improving road connectivity, easing traffic movement and enhancing the overall outlook of Awka.

Geneva Road is a major commercial and hospitality corridor, home to several hotels, restaurants, lounges and other businesses that play a vital role in the city’s economy. For more than eight years, the road remained in a deplorable condition, causing hardship for motorists, residents, business owners and visitors.

Construction equipment and workers have been fully mobilised to the site, with work progressing in line with approved engineering standards to ensure quality delivery within the stipulated timeframe.

When completed, the reconstructed road is expected to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and provide easier access to residential areas, businesses and recreational centres along the corridor.

The project is also expected to stimulate commercial activities, attract more investment and further strengthen the ongoing transformation of the Awka Capital Territory.

The reconstruction reflects the Soludo administration’s continued commitment to upgrading critical infrastructure, promoting sustainable urban development and improving the quality of life of residents across Anambra State.

Residents and business owners have welcomed the intervention, expressing optimism that the long-awaited reconstruction will ease transportation challenges, improve business activities and restore the area’s economic vibrancy.
