Kano Court Sentences Man to Death by Hanging for Killing 23-Year Old Housewife

The Kano State High Court has sentenced Shuaibu Abdulkadir to death by hanging for the murder of 23 year old housewife, Rumasa’u Shuaibu.

Abdulkadir, a resident of Chediyar Kuda, Shauchi Quarters, Kano, was convicted of culpable homicide following a trial over the killing, which occurred on April 6, 2025, at Farawa Quarters in the state.

Delivering judgment on Friday, July 24, 2026, Justice Farida Rabiu Danbappa held that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

“I find Shuaibu Abdulkadir guilty. I hereby sentence you to death by hanging for culpable homicide,” the judge ruled, while informing the convict that he had 90 days to appeal.

The prosecution, led by Basiru Kabiru Ali, told the court that Abdulkadir killed Rumasa’u Shuaibu, who was reportedly a friend of his girlfriend.

To establish its case, the prosecution called three witnesses and tendered seven exhibits, including the convict’s confessional statement, a photograph and the deceased’s mobile phone.

The convict denied committing the offence, which the prosecution said contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.

However, during the trial, the defence counsel, Mustapha Idris, presented Abdulkadir to testify in his own defence and later pleaded for leniency, describing him as a first time offender who had expressed remorse for his actions.

The court, having found the prosecution’s case proven beyond reasonable doubt, subsequently handed down the death sentence.
