Kano Building Collapses Kill Five, Including 14-Year Old Student
Five people, including a 14 year old student, have died in two separate building collapses in Kumbotso and Fagge Local Government Areas of Kano State.
The incidents occurred on Saturday at Gaida and Kurna, with the Kano State Fire Service rescuing 10 people from the two sites.
At Gaida, a building under construction collapsed on six workers. Two workers, aged 17 and 19, were rescued alive, while four others were later confirmed dead.
The second collapse occurred at an Islamiyya school in Kurna, where nine students aged between 12 and 15 were affected. Eight were rescued, while 14 year old Khadija Muhammad was found unconscious and later confirmed dead.
The causes of the collapses are being investigated.
The Kano State Fire Service urged building owners, contractors and residents to comply with approved building standards and observe safety precautions, particularly during the rainy season.
