200 Anambra Women Empowered With 4000 Noiler Birds

Two hundred women across Anambra State have received 4,000 Noiler birds as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening women’s livelihoods, promoting economic independence and improving household incomes.
The Empower Her Poultry Project was launched by the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation, BATNF, in partnership with the Anambra State Government, at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka.
Each beneficiary received 20 birds, a bag of poultry feed and veterinary drugs as starter support for establishing and sustaining small scale poultry businesses.
The beneficiaries, drawn from different communities across the state, are expected to use the support to develop their poultry enterprises, generate income and improve their families’ livelihoods.
The project is being implemented by Ecofield in collaboration with the Anambra State Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Agriculture. It is designed to provide women with productive resources and opportunities to build sustainable sources of income.
Speaking at the flag off, Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Esther Onyekesi, commended BATNF for supporting women in the state through what she described as a practical and sustainable intervention.
Mrs. Onyekesi said the initiative aligns with the Soludo administration’s commitment to moving women from dependency to economic productivity by providing them with tangible assets and opportunities to generate income.
She noted that empowering women with productive resources would enable them to build businesses, support their families and contribute meaningfully to their communities, particularly at the grassroots.
The Commissioner also stressed the importance of collaboration between government, development organisations and implementing partners in addressing the economic challenges facing women.
She assured that the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare would continue to support initiatives that promote the welfare, dignity and economic wellbeing of women across Anambra State.
