FRSC Recovers Double Barrel Gun from Crash Scene on Awka Enugu Expressway

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has recovered a double barrel gun from the scene of a road traffic crash along the Awka Enugu Expressway in Anambra State.

The firearm was recovered on Friday at about 2:30 p.m. by members of the FRSC Rescue Patrol Team during a routine inventory of victims’ belongings after rescue operations had been completed at the crash scene.

According to the Corps, officers discovered the weapon concealed among luggage inside one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

The rescue team immediately secured the firearm to prevent unauthorised access or possible misuse. As no claimant came forward and no valid documentation for the weapon was found, the gun was subsequently handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and necessary action.

The Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC Headquarters, Abuja, Osondu Ohaeri, said the recovery demonstrated that the Corps’ responsibilities extend beyond rescuing crash victims and preventing road accidents to also contributing to national security.

The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, commended the rescue team for its professionalism, vigilance and integrity, noting that the incident further highlighted the strategic role of the FRSC as a critical first responder.

He said the Corps remained committed to road safety but that the alertness of its personnel during patrol and rescue operations had, on several occasions, led to the recovery of dangerous weapons, stolen vehicles and other items of security importance.

The FRSC assured Nigerians of its continued collaboration with security agencies to enhance public safety and protect lives and property.

The Corps also urged motorists and members of the public to remain law abiding and promptly report suspicious activities observed along the nation’s highways.
