Attempted Child Killing in Abia Sparks Calls for Emergency Action Against Child Abuse

A disturbing incident in has sparked nationwide outrage, with renewed calls for stronger measures to combat child abuse after a viral video allegedly showed a woman attacking a young girl with a knife.

The incident, reported to have occurred at IBB Estate in Umuahia, showed the visibly distressed child crying, pleading for help and shielding her neck as the woman allegedly threatened to slit her throat.

Reacting to the incident, Nigerian writer and founder of the Leave No One Behind Rural Care Initiative, , called on governments at all levels to declare a state of emergency on child abuse and violence against children.

He described the attack as an attempted murder and urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

According to Ogbu, the video has already been forwarded to the Abia State Government, which assured him that prompt action would be taken.

The incident has generated widespread condemnation on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victim. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
