Relief Market Axis of Enugu Onitsha Expressway Gets Pothole Repairs

Major potholes that have posed serious danger to motorists around the Relief Market axis of the Enugu Onitsha Expressway in Ogbaru are currently undergoing repairs.

The repair work, being handled by CBC Construction Company under the Federal Ministry of Works, has seen the deployment of an excavator and other equipment to the affected portion of the highway.

An ABS correspondent who monitored the exercise observed workers filling the deep potholes with concrete and red sand in an effort to restore the badly damaged sections of the busy expressway.

The Commander of CBC Security Company, Mr Uchenna Orji, said 14 truckloads of concrete had already been used for the repairs, stressing that the quantity used so far had not covered half of the affected portion.

Orji explained that the ongoing work forms part of a wider rehabilitation effort covering the Enugu Onitsha Expressway from the Umunya axis towards the Bridge Head.

He said the construction company would soon move additional equipment to the current work area to accelerate the repairs and ensure completion.

Meanwhile, a staff member of the Nigeria Forest and Security Service, Mr Innocent Nwibo, who assists with traffic control around Upper Iweka, said the deteriorated sections of the expressway, coupled with the activities of touts, contribute significantly to the daily traffic congestion in the area.

Nwibo appealed to the construction company to expedite the repairs, noting that restoring the damaged sections would improve traffic flow and reduce the risks faced by motorists and other road users.

The rehabilitation is expected to provide relief to motorists who regularly use the busy Enugu Onitsha corridor, particularly around the Relief Market and Upper Iweka areas.
