Revenge Mission Cut Short! Oyo Police Arrest Anambra Man, Recover Pistol

By Njideka Agbo | IchieTimes

A journey allegedly driven by grief and a desire for revenge has ended in a police arrest after operatives of the Oyo State Police Command intercepted a man travelling from Anambra State with a pistol and a cartridge.

The suspect was arrested by the Safer Highway Patrol during a stop and search operation along Ife Road while travelling in a commercial bus.

According to the police, the man’s responses during questioning suggested that he was heading to Oyo State to find and avenge the death of his younger brother, who he claimed was killed at a school in Oka.

The suspect said he was working in Benue State when news of his brother’s death reached him. He further disclosed that his mother died a few weeks later, adding to the family tragedy.

He told investigators that he subsequently received information that the person he believed was responsible for his brother’s death was living in Oyo State, prompting him to travel there.

The suspect reportedly admitted purchasing the pistol from a friend for ₦20,000 and confirmed his membership of the Vikings confraternity. However, he said he did not know whether his deceased brother belonged to any cult group.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olushola Olayinka, said investigations were continuing to establish the suspect’s connections and the full circumstances surrounding the alleged revenge plot.

The arrest has raised fresh concerns about the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands, particularly when allegations of a killing have yet to be conclusively established.
