Terrorists Invade Borno School, Abduct NECO Candidates

Suspected members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday, abducting an unspecified number of students writing the National Examinations Council examination.

The terrorists reportedly stormed the school at about 9 a.m., firing gunshots that forced students, teachers and residents to flee before taking an unknown number of examination candidates into the bush.

A teacher was killed during the attack, while another sustained injuries.

Security authorities confirmed that several students remain unaccounted for as efforts continue to determine the exact number of those abducted.

A joint search and rescue operation involving the military, the police, the Civilian Joint Task Force and other security personnel has been launched. Security teams are combing nearby forests to locate the kidnapped students and apprehend the attackers.

The attack adds to growing concerns over the security of schools in northeastern Nigeria, particularly in areas affected by insurgent activities. Authorities have assured residents that rescue efforts are ongoing.
