15 Killed, 17 Injured in Kwara Truck Crash

At least 15 people have died and 17 others sustained injuries following a lone truck crash along the Ogbomoso to Oko Olowo corridor of the Ilorin Jebba Expressway in .

The crash occurred at about 2:32 a.m. near the Muslim Cemetery area and involved a DAF XF truck carrying 48 male occupants.

The Sector Commander in Kwara, , attributed the fatal accident to driver fatigue.

According to the FRSC, 15 occupants died, 17 sustained varying degrees of injuries including fractures, dislocations and bruises, while 16 escaped unhurt.

The injured victims were taken to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for medical treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were released to their families through the Sarkin Hausawa of Oko Olowo in .

Rescue personnel continued searching for possible victims trapped beneath the truck’s load as emergency responders from the Oloru Unit Command and Oko Olowo Outpost carried out the operation.

The FRSC urged motorists to avoid mixed loading, night travel and driving while fatigued, adding that it would intensify public awareness campaigns on road safety to prevent similar tragedies.
