APSON Seeks ABS Partnership to Tackle Food Fraud in Anambra

The Anti Piracy Society of Nigeria, APSON, has paid a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of the Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, to seek partnership in promoting food safety and tackling food fraud in the state.
The partnership is expected to focus on food safety and hygiene awareness, consumer education, public enlightenment and efforts to sanitise the Anambra food supply chain.
Speaking during the visit, the Director General of APSON, Mr Frank Uduonu, said food fraud is largely driven by activities in the informal sector and requires sustained public education to address.
Mr Uduonu said the organisation’s anti food fraud campaign was inspired by Mrs Nonye Soludo’s healthy living initiative, stressing that the media would be critical in taking the message to communities and households.
Responding, the ABS Managing Director, Mr Molokwu, described food fraud as one of the challenges confronting Anambra and urged APSON to work with relevant government ministries and institutions, including the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Education.
Mr Molokwu also identified poverty and illiteracy as factors that contribute to the patronage of fake and substandard products, urging residents to embrace healthy living practices.
APSON is a non governmental organisation focused on consumer protection, food safety and hygiene, and the sanitisation of Nigeria’s food supply chain.
