The World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that Nigeria currently has no Ebola cases following the medical evacuation of the affected patient and her husband to Switzerland.

WHO Regional Director for Africa, Dr Mohamed Janabi, disclosed this on Monday in a statement on his official X handle, noting that Nigeria would continue monitoring 52 contacts linked to the case.

Janabi said the evacuation took place earlier on Monday and confirmed that both the patient and her husband are Swiss citizens. He added that the patient was clinically stable after Nigerian medical teams successfully managed the acute phase of her illness and stabilised her condition.

The WHO official commended the Federal Government, health workers, clinicians, emergency responders and other partners for their role in managing the case, describing the development as a significant public health achievement.

He said the response demonstrated Africa’s expertise and capacity to manage public health emergencies through collaboration and coordinated action.

Despite the evacuation, Janabi stressed that continued vigilance and contact monitoring remained essential. Nigeria will follow up on 52 contacts, while Switzerland will take responsibility for the patient’s continued care and monitoring of the 53rd contact, her husband.

The development means Nigeria currently has no reported Ebola cases, according to the WHO official, although public health surveillance and follow-up measures remain ongoing.
