Anambra Government Inaugurates TRACAS Review Committee to Strengthen Transport Services

The Anambra State Government has inaugurated an eight member Review Committee to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the Anambra State Transport Company, TRACAS, as part of efforts to reposition the state owned transport service for improved efficiency, accountability and long term sustainability.

Inaugurating the committee, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo, said the review is designed to evaluate the operational performance of TRACAS and recommend practical reforms that will enhance the organisation’s effectiveness in meeting the transportation needs of the people.

According to the Commissioner, the review became necessary because the company’s revenue generation and overall performance have not kept pace with Anambra State’s economic growth and the increasing demand for quality transport services under the administration of Governor Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Hon. Ibuzo charged the eight member committee, chaired by Chief Michael Chukwudeme, to examine the operational, financial and administrative activities of TRACAS, review its revenue performance, and recommend measures that will improve efficiency, transparency, service delivery and institutional accountability.

The committee will assess the company’s legal framework, corporate governance, management structure, staffing, financial records, operational outlets, vehicle fleet, passenger transport services, courier operations and other commercial activities. Members are also expected to inspect TRACAS parks and facilities, verify relevant documents, engage management and staff, and evaluate operational challenges across all locations.

Based on its findings, the committee will recommend appropriate reforms, including possible restructuring, Public Private Partnership arrangements, franchising models and other sustainable strategies aimed at making TRACAS more competitive and financially viable.

The Commissioner directed the committee to submit weekly progress reports to keep Governor Soludo fully informed and enable prompt government decisions on the implementation of its recommendations. He gave the committee three weeks to complete the assignment, subject to extension if necessary, and assured members of the Ministry’s full support while urging TRACAS management to cooperate fully throughout the exercise.

Hon. Ibuzo expressed confidence that the review would provide a solid foundation for building a modern, efficient and customer focused transport system that will better serve the people of Anambra State.
