NUJ Anambra Strengthens Professional Bond Through Annual Press Week Activities

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council has reinforced its commitment to unity, healthy living and stronger stakeholder relationships as it marked its Annual Press Week and 35th anniversary with a series of sporting activities.
A major highlight was a novelty football match between the NUJ Anambra team and the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Anambra State Command, which ended in a commanding 7–1 victory for the journalists.
Despite the competitive nature of the encounter, the match provided an atmosphere of camaraderie, sportsmanship and friendship between the two organisations.
Speaking after the match, the Chairman of the NUJ Anambra State Council, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, said the impressive participation of journalists demonstrated the union’s commitment to promoting physical fitness, healthy living and a balanced work life among media professionals.
Dr. Odogwu stressed that the encounter was not primarily about victory or defeat, but about strengthening the existing relationship between the NUJ and its stakeholders while celebrating the Annual Press Week in an atmosphere of unity and friendship.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC, Anambra State Command, Bridget Asekhauno, described the encounter as a victory for both organisations, noting the cordial relationship that exists between the FRSC and the NUJ and congratulated the NUJ Anambra State Council on its 35th anniversary and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining an open door relationship with journalists.
Captain of the NUJ football team, Comrade Chibuzo Obidike, commended his teammates for their dedication and commitment, revealing that the team had trained consistently in preparation for sporting engagements, dedicating the victory to journalists in Anambra State and across Nigeria.
Earlier, the council held indoor games at the NUJ Press Centre, with O’star Eze emerging winner in Chess, Felix Otti in Whot, while Lawrence Nwimo won both Ludo and Ncho.
The sporting activities formed part of the programmes lined up for the NUJ Anambra State Council’s Annual Press Week and 35th anniversary celebration, which seeks to promote unity, wellness, team spirit and stronger collaboration between journalists and partner organisations.
