Troops Recover AK-47 Rifles, Other Weapons in Plateau

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered AK-47 rifles, locally fabricated firearms and ammunition during an operation to foil a suspected attack in Mwar Community, Chakfem Kingdom, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The operation, conducted under Sector 8, Operation ENDURING PEACE, followed credible intelligence of a planned attack by suspected bandit militias.

The Army said the threat may have been linked to the reported rustling of an unconfirmed number of cattle allegedly by some youths from the community.

Troops launched a fighting patrol and conducted surveillance with drones while searching for the missing cattle. Although the cattle were not recovered, intelligence led troops to the residence of a suspected perpetrator, Pantong Stanley, who was not at home during the operation.

A subsequent snap raid led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated AK-47, one locally fabricated revolver rifle, two Dane guns and 15 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition.

The Army said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and other persons linked to the incident.
