Troops Intercept Gun Runners In Zamfara, Rescue Six Kidnap Victims
Troops of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another major breakthrough in Zamfara State, intercepting three suspected gun runners and rescuing six kidnap victims in separate operations.
In the first operation on Sunday, August 23, troops of Sector 2 intercepted a vehicle along the Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road. A search of the vehicle uncovered an AK-103-2 rifle, one magazine and 30 rounds of ammunition, reportedly concealed inside a bag of millet.
Three suspects were arrested in connection with the weapons. Preliminary investigations indicated that the arms were allegedly being transported to Yar-Galadima in Maru Local Government Area.
In a separate operation the same day, troops responded to a distress call over an attack on motorists along the Anka–Gummi Road.
The soldiers engaged the terrorists as they attempted to force their victims into the forest. Under pressure from the troops, the attackers fled, abandoning all six kidnapped victims.
The victims were immediately secured and rescued. Three of them, who sustained minor injuries during the ordeal, were taken to a medical facility and are reportedly in stable condition.
The latest operations highlight the military’s continued efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics, particularly the movement of illegal weapons, while protecting commuters and communities across the North West.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA has urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information on suspicious persons, movements and weapons to security agencies.
