The traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Chidubem Iweka III has proposed the administration of traditional oaths on public officers as a means to curb corruption.

Igwe Iweka was speaking in Awka during the commissioning of the Awka Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on Friday.

According to the monarch who also doubles as the Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, traditional oaths which is believed to be potent and still mostly feared and respected by a majority of the Nigerian society will deter prospective prospective public officers from pilfering public funds.

He believes the means will support other orthodox ways of fighting corruption as he highlighted the minimal success of efforts of law enforcement agencies in nipping corruption in the bud.

The traditional ruler also advocated the inclusion of anti-corruption into the primary and secondary schools’ curricula as a way to teach young people from an early stage the disadvantages and dangers of corruption in the public service.
