Tansian University Appoints Umeoduagu as Acting Vice Chancellor
Tansian University has appointed Professor (Hon.) D.N. Carter Umeoduagu as its new Acting Vice Chancellor, marking a new chapter in the institution’s pursuit of academic and spiritual excellence.
Before his appointment, Professor Umeoduagu served as the Deputy Chancellor for Academics and University Advancement at Tansian University. He also previously represented Aguata I Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Addressing professors, deans and heads of departments at the University’s Senate Chamber, the Acting Vice Chancellor urged faculties preparing for National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation to intensify efforts towards meeting the required academic standards. He emphasized that accreditation remains a critical benchmark for the University’s continued growth and reputation.
Professor Umeoduagu described professors as the driving force behind the University’s success, stressing the need for them to uphold the institution’s founding ideals of academic and spiritual excellence. He called on all academic staff to demonstrate a high level of responsibility, discipline and professionalism, particularly in maintaining the integrity of examinations. He disclosed that mechanisms have been put in place to enable students evaluate the performance of lecturers as part of measures to improve teaching quality and accountability.
The Acting Vice Chancellor, who advocated for a renewed vision for Tansian University, also announced that the retirement age for academic staff has been increased to 75 years. He further stated that academic staff serving on contract must renew their appointments annually, warning that failure to do so would be regarded as voluntary resignation.
The appointment of Professor Umeoduagu is expected to provide strategic leadership as Tansian University continues to strengthen its academic standards and institutional development.
