Benue Investigates Suspected Mpox Case
The Benue State Government has commenced investigations into a suspected case of mpox reported in Korinya community, Konshisha Local Government Area.
The State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Paul Egwuche, said the state activated its disease surveillance system following reports of a suspected case circulating on social media.
He said health officials had been deployed to the community to assess the situation, investigate the case and collect samples for laboratory testing.
The commissioner stressed that no mpox outbreak has been confirmed in Benue, noting that fever and skin rashes could result from several medical conditions and that laboratory confirmation was required.
The state government urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information. Anyone experiencing fever accompanied by unexplained rashes or blisters was advised to report to the nearest health facility and avoid close contact with others until medically assessed.
Authorities said the public would be updated as soon as the laboratory results become available.
