ASUU Gives Soludo, Uzodimma 14 Days to Implement 2025 Agreement, Threatens Indefinite Strike
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Owerri Zone, has issued a 14 day ultimatum to the governors of Anambra and Imo states to implement the 2025 Federal Government and ASUU Agreement or face an indefinite strike in their state owned universities.
The union said academic activities would be suspended at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam, and Imo State University if the Anambra and Imo State governments fail to commence implementation of the agreement within the stipulated period.
Speaking during a press briefing at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, the ASUU Owerri Zonal Coordinator, Dennis Aribodor, said more than five months after implementation of the agreement began in many states, Anambra and Imo had yet to take action.
Aribodor explained that the affected ASUU branches submitted the 2025 Federal Government and ASUU Agreement to their university administrations in February 2026, while the National Universities Commission also forwarded the document to the two state governors and the vice chancellors for implementation.
He noted that the agreement provides for payment of salary deficits, improved staff welfare and infrastructure development, adding that repeated engagements with the state governments and university authorities had not produced any positive response.
The ASUU official expressed concern that while states including Bauchi, Benue, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun and Sokoto had commenced implementation of the agreement, Anambra and Imo remained among the few states yet to comply. The union warned that failure to act within the 14 day deadline would result in an indefinite strike across the affected universities.
