Police Foil Bandits’ Attack, Arrest Housewife Over Attempted Murder in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a suspected bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Government Area and arrested a 23 year old housewife for allegedly attempting to kill her husband in a separate incident.
According to the police, a distress call received at about 6:30 p.m. on June 28 alerted operatives to the movement of a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles along the Kadisau to Sheme Road in Dandume.
The Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed operatives of the Violent Crimes Response Unit in collaboration with members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps to the area.
The security operatives engaged the suspected bandits in a gun battle, forcing them to flee into the bush. Two motorcycles and a machete were recovered at the scene, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In another development, police arrested a housewife identified as Sadiya Lawal for allegedly attempting to murder her husband.
The Command said the incident occurred in the early hours of June 29 when the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim, was reportedly attacked with a knife while asleep. He sustained a deep cut to the neck and was taken to hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Police operatives arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack. She remains in custody as investigations continue and is expected to be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Fage, commended the swift response of the officers and members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps. He also urged residents to resolve domestic disputes peacefully and encouraged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support the fight against crime.
