Police Rescue 11 Kidnap Victims After Bandits Attack Zamfara Highway

The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued 11 kidnapped victims following a deadly bandit attack on the Gummi–Sokoto highway that left one person dead and another seriously injured.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Monday when heavily armed bandits ambushed a trailer transporting vegetables and passengers along the highway.

According to the police, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.

A passenger identified as Dan Fati Umar, from Gidan Ganja in Bukuyum Local Government Area, was reportedly killed in the attack, while another victim sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical attention.

The bandits allegedly abducted an unspecified number of passengers before escaping into the bush.

However, a swift rescue operation involving the police and other security agencies led to the recovery of 11 victims, who have since been reunited with their families.

The trailer involved in the attack remains under police protection as security operatives continue efforts to rescue any remaining victims and apprehend the attackers.

The Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commiserated with the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state while urging residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies.
