Army Dismantles Suspected Illegal Bunkering Site in Lagos, Arrests Six
The Nigerian Army has dismantled a suspected illegal oil bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State, arresting six suspected oil bunkerers during an intelligence driven operation aimed at combating economic sabotage.
According to the 81 Division of the Nigerian Army, troops of the 65 Battalion carried out the raid under the leadership of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, following credible intelligence on illegal bunkering activities in the area.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects and the recovery of four trucks, one pumping machine, as well as assorted pipes and drums allegedly used for illegal oil bunkering. The suspects and the recovered exhibits have since been handed over to the Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and prosecution.
In a statement, the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 81 Division, Lieutenant Musa Yahaya, said the successful operation underscores the military’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and curbing economic crimes within its area of responsibility.
Commending the troops for their professionalism and swift action, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Major General Adebayo Babalola, charged them to sustain the offensive against illegal oil bunkering and other forms of economic sabotage.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed that the operation forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen security, protect vital national infrastructure, and eliminate criminal networks involved in illegal oil activities across the country.
