Soludo Government Steps Up Fight Against Erosion, Assures No Community Will Be Left Behind
The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting communities from erosion and other environmental threats, demonstrating a proactive approach to safeguarding lives, infrastructure, and the environment across the state.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, gave the assurance following the commencement of technical assessments at the erosion site in Ifite Village, Enugwu Agidi. The intervention came just days after the leadership of the Ifite Village Development Meeting, led by Mr. Donald Otteh, visited the Ministry of Environment to present the environmental challenges confronting the community.
Dr. Aguiyi said the swift deployment of government officials to the affected area reflects Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s determination to ensure timely intervention in both emerging and existing erosion sites across Anambra State.
He stressed that no community facing environmental challenges would be abandoned, as the administration remains committed to finding lasting solutions to erosion and climate related threats.
In line with the commissioner’s directive, the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Chinedu Ononiba, deployed the council engineer to assess the failed Ogbolo Nwampete Culvert and prepare a technical report ahead of reconstruction works.
Also, the Acting Managing Director of the Anambra State Erosion, Watershed and Climate Change Agency, ANSWECCA, Engr. Ifeanyi, carried out an on the spot assessment of the erosion corridor stretching from the boundary between Ifite and Ogwugwu villages through Udoka Primary School to the Ogene Stream in Ifite Village.
The findings will provide the technical basis for the design and execution of sustainable erosion control measures.
The Commissioner called on residents and community leaders to promptly report environmental threats to the Ministry of Environment while urging Ndi Anambra to support government efforts by keeping drainage channels free of refuse, preserving natural waterways, and embracing environmentally responsible practices.
He reiterated that environmental protection is a shared responsibility and reaffirmed the Soludo administration’s resolve to build a cleaner, greener, safer, and climate resilient Anambra State through practical, solution driven interventions.
