Relief for Nkpor Residents as Anambra Government Moves to Reconstruct Government Technical College Road

Residents of Umusiome in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area, have received renewed hope as the Anambra State Government announced plans to reconstruct the Government Technical College Road, a major access route that has remained in a deplorable condition for years.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Works, Engineer Okey Ezeobi, during an inspection visit to the community alongside the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Clems Aguiyi.
The commissioners met with members of the Umusiome Central Landlords Association, community leaders, residents, and the management of Government Technical College, Umusiome, to assess the condition of the road and other environmental challenges affecting the area.
Speaking during the visit, Engineer Ezeobi said Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo remains committed to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life of Ndi Anambra through strategic road projects and other development initiatives.
He acknowledged the hardship caused by the poor state of the road and assured residents that the government is determined to complete the outstanding Phase One of the project, noting that Phases Two and Three have already been executed.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the state government would address the massive gully erosion threatening the Government Technical College, stressing that the safety of students, teachers, and other users of the school remains a priority.
Engineer Ezeobi, however, urged business owners and traders in Nkpor and neighbouring communities to fulfil their civic responsibility by paying taxes and government levies promptly, explaining that internally generated revenue plays a vital role in funding infrastructure and other development projects.
On his part, the Commissioner for Environment, Engineer Clems Aguiyi, blamed indiscriminate refuse disposal, blocked drainage channels, and unapproved building developments for the persistent flooding and worsening erosion in the area.
He called on residents to embrace proper environmental practices and comply with building regulations to protect lives, property, and public infrastructure.
The President General of Nkpor, Chief Godwin Nnamdi, and the Chairman of the Umusiome Central Landlords Association, Chief Dan Alaneme, commended Governor Soludo for ongoing developmental projects across the state.
They appealed for the speedy reconstruction of the road, describing it as a critical route that has subjected residents, motorists, schoolchildren, and business owners to years of hardship.
The commissioners also inspected the deteriorating road and the expanding gully erosion within the premises of Government Technical College, where students and teachers narrated the challenges they face daily and appealed to the state government for urgent intervention.
The visit reinforced the government’s commitment to addressing critical infrastructure deficits while tackling environmental challenges threatening communities across Anambra State.
