RATTAWU Young Leaders Reaffirm Commitment to Workers’ Rights at NLC RAIN School
Young leaders of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers’ Union of Nigeria, RATTAWU, have reaffirmed their commitment to workers’ rights, social justice and effective trade union leadership following their participation in the 22nd Nigeria Labour Congress RAIN School 2026.
The programme, which focused on the theme, “The Working Class and the Politics of 2027: Issues, Challenges and Opportunities,” brought together labour activists and emerging union leaders for discussions on workers’ interests, political participation and leadership.
The RATTAWU delegation actively participated in the sessions, gaining insights into contemporary labour issues while engaging with other participants and building networks that could strengthen the labour movement.
The young unionists said their participation was part of efforts to prepare a new generation of leaders capable of defending the interests of Nigerian workers and contributing meaningfully to national development.
They also expressed their determination to uphold integrity, humility and accountability in union leadership, while remaining committed to the collective interests of workers.
The 2026 RAIN School comes as organised labour and other stakeholders begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with increasing discussions around the role of the working class in Nigeria’s political and socio economic development.
The participation of RATTAWU young leaders is expected to further strengthen the union’s leadership succession plan and its capacity to engage emerging labour and national issues.
The young leaders maintained that the future of the labour movement depends largely on purposeful leadership, continuous education and active participation in issues affecting workers.
They pledged to carry forward the ideals of trade unionism and contribute to building a stronger and more responsive labour movement.
