The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 36 year old man, Shobande Taofeek, over alleged vandalism and theft of railway infrastructure in the Arigbajo axis of the state, recovering 16 railway iron rods and two gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen.

The suspect was arrested on October 23, 2026, by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit following intelligence reports on the alleged theft and destruction of railway materials in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operatives intensified surveillance and patrols before apprehending the suspect, who reportedly led them to an uncompleted building where the suspected stolen items were recovered.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicate that Taofeek allegedly confessed to involvement in similar offences on three previous occasions. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the incident and recover any additional stolen property.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting public assets and critical infrastructure, describing the fight against such offences as essential to safeguarding the state’s resources. He urged residents to provide credible information to assist crime prevention and improve community safety.

The suspect’s alleged involvement remains subject to investigation.
