Anambra Govt Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Education Sector

The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing challenges facing the education sector and improving the quality of teaching and learning across the state.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, gave the assurance during a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission in Awka, where he met with directors and heads of autonomous units.

He said the visit was aimed at identifying key challenges confronting the commission and developing practical solutions to improve the delivery of quality education. He stressed that the success of the education sector depends largely on the dedication of education administrators and urged them to work together to restore Anambra’s reputation for academic excellence.

The Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Mrs. Benedine Anagor, expressed confidence that the engagement would lead to positive reforms and improve public secondary education in the state.

During the meeting, directors identified major challenges requiring urgent attention, including examination malpractice, shortage of qualified teaching and non teaching staff, inadequate security for schools, regular staff training, poor infrastructure, insufficient vehicles for monitoring, inadequate laboratory facilities, improved funding for zonal and headquarters offices, prompt release of schools’ running costs, and better incentives for personnel serving in hard to reach communities.

Responding to the concerns, Dr. Ogugua underscored the need to uphold integrity in the education system and eliminate examination malpractice. He assured stakeholders that the issues raised would receive appropriate government attention as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the education sector.
