Owerre Ezukala Celebrates Otute Festival as Anambra Govt Moves to Develop Cave, Waterfall

The Traditional Ruler of Owerre Ezukala in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Igwe Ambassador Thomas Ogbonnaya, has performed the 2026 Otute Festival of the community, with thirteen illustrious sons and friends honoured with chieftaincy titles.
The festival, held at Ichichi Square where the Owerre Ezukala Civic Centre is located, featured colourful masquerade and cultural displays, as well as the conferment of traditional titles on the recipients.
Igwe Ogbonnaya, who is Chairman of the Orumba South Traditional Rulers Council, used the occasion to call for unity among his subjects, urging them to work collectively for the progress and development of the community while condemning criminality.
The State Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism, Barrister Udorji Amedu, disclosed that the Anambra State Government is working with community leaders towards the development of the Owerre Ezukala Cave and Waterfall, one of the area’s major tourist attractions.
Amedu said the government was preparing to commence the construction of core infrastructure at the tourist sites, stressing that the development would further enhance the tourism potential of Owerre Ezukala and Anambra State.
He charged the newly honoured chiefs to justify the confidence reposed in them by supporting initiatives that would promote peace, unity and sustainable development in the community.
The President General of Owerre Ezukala, Engr. Johnbenson Onyeaso, described the 2026 festival as a harvest of renewal and restoration, calling for collective efforts towards advancing the community.
Responding on behalf of the recipients, Chief Onyeka Orji thanked the community for the honour and pledged that the new chiefs would redouble their efforts towards community development.
The event attracted traditional rulers from across Orumba South, members of the political class and religious leaders, among other guests.
