One Dies In Lagos Ibadan Expressway Crash, Traffic Gridlock Persists
A physically challenged beggar has been killed in a multiple vehicle crash along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The crash occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Car Park C on the outbound section of the expressway and involved a container laden Mack truck, a loaded DAF truck and a Toyota bus.
The Head of Media of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said preliminary findings indicated that the Mack truck suffered brake failure while approaching a turning point.
He said the truck subsequently rammed into vehicles negotiating the turn before hitting the beggar, who was in a wheelchair.
Akinbiyi said the accident had significantly affected traffic movement along the outbound Lagos route, adding that operatives of TRACE, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the police were at the scene to manage the situation.
Efforts were ongoing to remove the damaged vehicles and restore normal traffic flow as of the time of filing this report.
The incident comes barely a day after multiple crashes along the Kara Bridge section of the expressway caused severe gridlock and left motorists stranded, with one person reportedly killed and two others injured.
