Cross River Police Arrest Fake Doctor Over Alleged UCTH Job Scam

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 39 year old man, Udeme Emmanuel Ekpeme, for allegedly impersonating a medical doctor, operating an illegal mobile clinic, and defrauding members of the public.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Uwanse Division in Calabar South following a complaint by Mrs. Edemawan Samuel, who alleged that Ekpeme collected N500,000 from her after promising to secure employment for her children at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect falsely presented himself as a medical doctor and used the claim to obtain money under false pretences. Medical equipment and other exhibits allegedly linked to his activities were also recovered.

The Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s activities and establish whether other members of the public may have fallen victim to the alleged scam.

The Police said the suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court if investigations establish sufficient evidence. Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and report suspected cases of impersonation and fraud to the nearest police station.
