Nigerian Students Excel at 2026 Singapore Math Olympiad, Secure Gold and Global Top 10 Rankings

Nigerian students have recorded an impressive performance at the 2026 Singapore International Mathematics Olympiad Challenge (SIMOC), winning multiple gold, silver and bronze medals, with two students placing among the world’s top 10 in the prestigious competition.

Leading Nigeria’s outstanding performance was Agu Chukwuka of Grundtvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State, who won two gold medals and one bronze medal across the Mathematics Olympiad Contest, Math Warriors and Math Master Mind events.

Chukwuka also secured 8th position globally in the Grade 7 Mathematics Olympiad Contest.

Another Nigerian student, Okpere Udo Hallel of Graceland International School, Port Harcourt, achieved an even higher global ranking, finishing 2nd in the world in the Grade 10 Mathematics Olympiad Contest. Hallel also won one gold and one bronze medal.

Nigeria’s medal haul was further strengthened by Nwawulu Chimgozirim Kevin of Grundtvig International Secondary School, who won gold in the Math Master Mind Lower Secondary Division.

Also winning gold medals were Stanley Iduate Samson of Graceland International School and Adepetu Mofopefoluwa Oluwasemilore of Jephthah Comprehensive Secondary School, Port Harcourt, both of whom emerged winners in the Math Master Mind Upper Secondary Division.

Several other Nigerian participants won silver and bronze medals, while others received honourable mentions for their performances.

The 2026 competition was held in Singapore from July 17 to 21, attracting about 2,285 students from 40 countries and 1,113 schools.

Participants competed in advanced mathematics, logical reasoning and critical thinking challenges.

The strong performance by the Nigerian delegation highlights the country’s growing potential in STEM education and demonstrates that Nigerian students can compete successfully on the global stage in mathematics and other areas of science and technology.

The achievement is also a significant boost for Nigerian schools, parents, teachers and organisations supporting the development of young talents in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
