Anambra Takes Over Demolished Illegal Structures in Nanka, Warns Property Owners

The Anambra State Government has warned that no individual, business or property owner is above the law, declaring that illegal structures, collapsed buildings and properties linked to criminal activities will face government action.
The Commissioner for Works, Arch. Okey Ezeobi, gave the warning during a lawful enforcement exercise at Umudala, Nanka, where government officials and community leaders moved against structures associated with unauthorised development.
The exercise followed concerns earlier raised by the Ministry of Physical Planning over illegal developments in the area.
Ezeobi said the government would no longer tolerate structures erected in violation of approved planning and building regulations, stressing that residents and investors must obtain the necessary approvals before undertaking construction.
The affected structures were demolished and the debris evacuated immediately, while the property was taken over by the state government for future public development.
The commissioner said the action was part of the government’s broader effort to protect lives, preserve the environment and ensure orderly physical development across Anambra.
He stressed that government enforcement would be carried out fairly, regardless of the status or interest of those involved.
