Nigerian Army Arrests Suspected Gun Runner, Rescue Kidnapped Victims In Plateau, Edo

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded fresh operational successes in Plateau and Edo States, arresting a suspected gunrunner, recovering firearms and rescuing a kidnapped victim.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE, working with vigilantes and local hunters, conducted an intelligence-led raid on Kisayi and Dogon Daji settlements in Bassa Local Government Area.
The operation followed the abduction of Dr Abraham Owoicho on August 19, 2026.
During the operation, a 30-year-old woman identified as Halima Ibrahim was arrested while allegedly attempting to flee with two AK-47 rifle magazines.
A subsequent search of her residence at Kisayi B Village led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one locally fabricated revolver, a military jungle hat and three mobile phones.
The Army said preliminary investigations indicated that the AK-47 allegedly belonged to her husband, identified as Ibrahim.
Meanwhile, in Edo State, troops working with the Edo State Security Corps rescued a kidnapped victim after laying an ambush at Powerline Uzairue along the Afawosa-Iyora Road in Etsako West LGA.
The troops reportedly engaged suspected kidnappers who were moving with their victim, forcing them to abandon 35-year-old Mohammed Oboarekpe and flee.
The victim told troops that he was abducted from his residence in South Ibie on August 20, 2026.
The Nigerian Army said it would continue intelligence-led operations, in collaboration with other security stakeholders, to dismantle criminal networks involved in kidnapping, arms trafficking and other violent crimes.
