NDLEA Intercepts UK Bound Cannabis, Drugs Hidden in Bread and Speakers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted consignments of synthetic cannabis, opioids and other illicit drugs concealed in cargoes, music speakers and loaves of bread in operations across several states.

The NDLEA said two consignments of Colorado were intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after operatives recovered 32.20kg and 12.25kg respectively. Two suspects, including a real estate agent identified as Abideen Jide Salami, were arrested in connection with the consignments.

In Lagos, NDLEA operatives also intercepted Colorado concealed in music speakers at Maza Maza and Iddo motor parks. Three suspects, including tour agent Ifeanyi Augustine, Obasi Ugochukwu and Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry, were arrested during the operations.

The agency reported further seizures in Delta, Kano and Plateau states. In Kano, 785,000 pregabalin capsules weighing 669.425kg were recovered from 20 year old Saidu Adamu, while 1,700 diazepam tablets were allegedly found concealed inside loaves of bread during a stop and search operation.

In Plateau State, 51 year old Chinedu Uzor was arrested with 157,100 tramadol capsules. The NDLEA also reported the seizure of cannabis in Edo, Ondo, Kaduna and Bayelsa states, including 4,832.56kg of skunk destroyed on cannabis farms in Edo State and 876kg recovered from four suspects in Bayelsa.

Commending the operations, NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), urged personnel to sustain efforts against drug trafficking and shut down channels being used by drug cartels across airports, seaports, land borders and the hinterland.
