Man Rescued Unhurt After Being Trapped in Faulty Elevator on Lagos Island

A man has been rescued unhurt after becoming trapped inside a malfunctioning elevator in a three storey building on Freeman Street, Zapass, Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, by the Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye.

According to the statement, a distress call was received at about 11:50 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of a rescue team from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station. The team arrived at the scene five minutes later and commenced rescue operations.

Firefighters successfully freed the trapped occupant from the elevator without any injuries.

Preliminary findings indicated that the incident was caused by an accidental elevator malfunction. The fire service confirmed that no casualty was recorded during the operation.
