Human Skull, Bones Found During Cleanup Exercise At Upper Iweka, Anambra

A human skull, bones and ribs have reportedly been discovered in a bushy area around Upper Iweka, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The discovery was reportedly made on Saturday during a routine environmental cleanup exercise by members of the Anambra RATELS group.

Social media critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, raised the alarm over the discovery in a social media post.

According to him, the remains found at the location may suggest that an unidentified person was killed, dismembered and possibly disposed of in a bag at the bush.

The discovery has raised concerns over the fate of the unidentified victim, with fears that the person’s family may still be searching for their missing relative without knowing what happened to them.

VeryDarkMan also called attention to the challenges of crime detection and tracking in Nigeria, particularly the lack of adequate surveillance infrastructure in many locations.

However, the circumstances surrounding the discovery remain unclear, and the identity of the deceased person has not been established.

The discovery is expected to prompt further investigation by the relevant security authorities to determine the identity of the victim, establish the cause of death and unravel how the human remains came to be abandoned at the location.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for improved surveillance, effective crime investigation and stronger systems for tracking missing persons to ensure that victims of violent crimes do not remain unidentified and justice is not denied.
