GHWFI Secures Release of Five Inmates, Gives Them Fresh Start in Owerri

The GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative (GHWFI) has secured the release of five inmates from the Nigerian Correctional Service Custodial Centre in Owerri, Imo State, after paying their court ordered fines.

The initiative, led by the Director General of GHWFI, Hon. Humphrey Ikeaka, visited the custodial centre on Friday, where the team was received by the Deputy Comptroller and officers of the facility.

The five beneficiaries, comprising four persons from Imo State and one from Abia State, had been serving prison sentences ranging from three to eight years.

Their release, according to GHWFI, was made possible through the intervention of the Imo State Government and the First Lady of Imo State, Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, whose humanitarian efforts through the initiative continue to focus on vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society.

The released inmates reportedly expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing the development as an opportunity to rebuild their lives and reconnect with society.

They also pledged to turn over a new leaf, embrace lawful living and contribute positively to their communities.

GHWFI said the intervention reflects its belief in redemption, rehabilitation and second chances, stressing that people who have served their sentences or fulfilled court requirements should be given opportunities to reintegrate into society.

The initiative reaffirmed its commitment to restoring dignity, empowering vulnerable people and giving individuals an opportunity to rewrite their stories.
