Police Uncover Fake Dollar Printing Factory in Ondo, Arrest Suspect
The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered an underground counterfeit dollar printing factory in Kiniso Village, Odigbo Local Government Area, arresting one suspect and recovering three bags of suspected fake United States dollar notes.
The operation, carried out by operatives from the Okitipupa Divisional Headquarters, also led to the recovery of printing equipment allegedly used by the suspected currency counterfeiting syndicate.
According to the police, the raid followed a complaint by a currency dealer in Sabo, Okitipupa, who was allegedly defrauded of ₦8.6 million after suspects exchanged 6,000 genuine US dollars for counterfeit notes.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrested suspect had provided useful information to investigators, while efforts were underway to identify and apprehend other members of the suspected syndicate who escaped.
He said the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, had directed that the investigation be intensified to ensure the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
The police cautioned members of the public against conducting foreign exchange transactions with unverified dealers and urged residents to report suspicious currency dealings to the nearest police station.
The command described the operation as part of its efforts to combat financial crimes and protect residents from fraudulent currency transactions.
