Four male adults have died while another sustained injuries in a lone vehicle crash along the Awka–Enugu Expressway, opposite the Old Government House, Awka.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, said the crash occurred at about 4:31 a.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, involving a white Toyota Camry with registration number ASB 264 AV.

According to the FRSC, preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was allegedly travelling at excessive speed before veering off the road into a drainage, hitting a culvert and somersaulting.

The vehicle was conveying five male adults. Four occupants lost their lives, while the fifth sustained injuries and was evacuated to a hospital for medical attention.

The Corps said that before the arrival of its rescue team, the victims had been evacuated to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, where three were confirmed dead and deposited in the mortuary.

The fourth victim was subsequently taken to Apex Hospital, Awka, where he was also confirmed dead.

The accidented vehicle was recovered and towed to the FRSC Command, while personal belongings, including ₦185,300 in cash and a car key holder, were recovered.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured survivor a speedy recovery.

She cautioned motorists against excessive speeding, particularly during early morning journeys when visibility may be reduced. Drivers were urged to obey speed limits, maintain proper control of their vehicles and ensure that approved speed-limiting devices and other safety equipment were functional.

The FRSC warned that speeding reduces drivers’ reaction time and increases the severity of road crashes, urging all motorists to prioritise safety and exercise caution while travelling.
