From Classroom to Garage: Aguata Youths Acquire Automotive Skills at Innoson Kiara Academy

Fifteen young people from Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State are taking a major step toward building sustainable careers after receiving three months of intensive training in automobile repairs and vehicle body building at the Innoson Kiara Academy, Nnewi.
The youths are undergoing the training under a full sponsorship programme designed to equip them with practical skills and improve their prospects for employment and entrepreneurship.
The sponsorship covers their tuition, accommodation, training manuals, personal protective equipment, identification cards and feeding support throughout the programme.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the sponsors to invest in the potential of young people in Aguata and provide them with skills that can translate into sustainable livelihoods.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
At the Innoson Kiara Academy, a technical and vocational education and training institution focused on automobile manufacturing and maintenance, the beneficiaries are receiving hands on instruction in automobile mechanics, electrical and electronic systems, as well as vehicle body building.
Their training includes practical skills in vehicle diagnostics and repairs, panel beating and spray painting.
After three months of intensive learning, the trainees are now approaching the concluding stage of the programme.
During a recent visit to the academy, the sponsors interacted with the beneficiaries, encouraged them to remain committed to their training and began discussions on the next stage of support to help them transition from training into productive careers.
The 15 beneficiaries are:
Tochukwu Onyejeakor, Emmanuel Umealachedo, Sopuruchukwu Ogbuagu, Kosarachi Ibeagwa, Nnaemeka Ikediobi, Abuchi Ezeoma, Somtochukwu Emenike, Paschal Umeweraku, Victor Emenike, Osita Okoli, Chimaroke Uchegwanam, Evaristus Ibekwe, Prince Akunne, Ifechukwu Nwankwo and Augustine Agodi.
Investing in the Future
The sponsors said their decision to support the youths was based on the belief that young people possess the capacity to transform their communities when given the right opportunities and practical skills.
They emphasised that technical and vocational education can provide young people with a pathway to self employment, entrepreneurship and financial independence.
According to them, the goal goes beyond paying for a training programme. It is to help the beneficiaries acquire skills they can use to build careers, create businesses and potentially employ others.
The sponsors also said they were already making plans for the next phase of support to ensure that the trainees are not left stranded after completing their training.

For the beneficiaries, the programme offers more than technical knowledge. It represents an opportunity to acquire a skill that can serve them for years and potentially open doors in Nigeria’s growing automotive sector.
