Child Pornography: Anambra Police Arrest 36-Year Old Mother, Rescue Four Children

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 36 year old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, over an alleged case of child sexual abuse and pornography in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The arrest followed open source intelligence concerning a disturbing video that was circulating online and allegedly showed the sexual abuse of a minor.

Police said the operation, conducted on the evening of September 10, also led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years respectively.

Sex toys and other items considered relevant to the investigation were also recovered from the scene, according to the Command.

The suspect is currently in police custody as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.

The husband of the suspect is also being interrogated as part of the investigation to establish whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, described the allegation as deeply disturbing and unacceptable, particularly because it involves children who are unable to protect themselves.

He directed a thorough and professional investigation and ordered that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection from relevant child protection and support agencies.

The Command said the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the investigation, stressing that their safety, dignity and wellbeing remain its priority.

The police also commended vigilante operatives, bloggers and residents whose information assisted the investigation and contributed to the arrest.

The Command urged members of the public to continue providing credible information on suspected child abuse and exploitation to security agencies.
