Concerned by the number of cases of cardiovascular disease-related deaths in society, and in demonstration of the slogan, “charity begins at home,” a nurse, through her ‘In Our Mind Foundation,’ has organized a medical outreach programme in Umudioka Village, Awka.
About 3,000 people, mostly women, at the outreach received free medical check-up, blood sugar test, blood pressure check, health talk and counselling; and mental health support.
“In Our Mind Foundation” is a community-driven mental health, wellness, empowerment and social-impact organization with the mission of promoting mental health awareness, emotional well-being, personal development and community support through meaningful conversations, educational initiatives, outreach programmes, wellness activities and empowerment projects.
Describing cardiovascular diseases as conditions that can be managed with early detection and the right dietary attitude, the Founder of “In Our Mind Foundation,” Iruoma Obiesie- Onuko, charged the people to take good care of their cardiovascular health to avoid stroke, heart attack and heart failure.
Onuko, a human rights activist also known as “Nurse Angel,” said the programme in her Umudioka Village, Awka, was aimed at helping people of the area discover their health status and offering necessary medical advice as the foundation does elsewhere around the world.
A resource person at the event and Executive Director, Integrated Anti-Human Trafficking and Community Development Initiative, Nkiruka Okoye, said the global project promotes human rights in many parts of the world by championing positive change, adding that the medical outreach is ongoing in different parts of the country on different dates.
The beneficiaries at Ndichie Hall, Umudioka Village, Awka, including Mrs Veronica Okafor and Mrs Nneka Nwobu, who thanked the benefactor for the health services they received at no cost; courtesy of a worthy daughter, said they will put into practice all the medical advice they were given at the event.
The “In Our Mind Foundation,” Team Anambra, was on ground to honour the founder, “Nurse Angel,” whom they described as one whose life has become a blessing to many, and who has transformed countless lives through her kindness, compassion, generosity and commitment to humanity.
