The Anambra State Judiciary has condemned the alleged harassment and physical assault of court bailiffs by police officers while executing a court judgment, assuring the public that an independent investigation into the incident is underway.

The incident came to public attention through a trending video clip circulating on social media.

In a press release signed by the Chief Registrar of the Anambra State Judiciary, Chinyere Ossy-Okoye, the Judiciary expressed grave concern over the development, describing it as a matter requiring serious attention.

The statement said court officials must be allowed to discharge their official responsibilities without intimidation, obstruction or unwarranted violence.

The Judiciary, under the leadership of the Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, stressed that respect for court orders and the lawful duties of court officers was fundamental to the administration of justice and the preservation of the rule of law.

While acknowledging the important role of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order, the statement emphasised that all institutions must operate within the confines of the law and uphold the dignity and authority of the courts.

Anambra Judiciary disclosed that it had begun reaching out to police authorities in the state while conducting a detailed, independent investigation into the incident.

It assured the public that a further statement would be issued in due course to communicate the outcome and conclusions of the investigation.
