2027: INEC Publishes Final List of Presidential, NASS Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates cleared to contest the January 16, 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The list, contained in a document titled “Presidential and National Assembly Elections for January 2027” and signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, shows that 18 political parties presented presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the election.

Among those cleared to contest the presidential election are President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Other presidential candidates on the list include Rufai Adekunle of the Action Alliance (AA), Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Yusuf Kabiru of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Adenuga Sunday of the Boot Party (BP), Moses Olusola Adebisi of the Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA), Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party (LP), and Sandy Onor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also cleared by the electoral commission are Donald Duke of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Adewole Adebayo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peter Adakey Agada of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), and Daniel Nwanyanwu of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

The list also provides age details of the presidential candidates. Moses Olusola Adebisi of the DLA, aged 35, is listed as the youngest presidential candidate, while Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) and Sunday Chibuzo Okereke of the LP are both 43 years old.

Abbas-Bin Aliyu of the ADP is 44.

At the other end of the age spectrum, Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje of the AA is 71, while Yusuf Kabiru of the APP is 54.

The commission also released the comprehensive lists of candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives elections.

Several prominent political figures, including principal officers of the National Assembly, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, among others, feature on the list of candidates cleared for the legislative elections.

The release of the final list formally sets the stage for the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
