HK boss denies maltreating man, explains ₦90,000 phone sale

The owner of an HK establishment accused of maltreating a man who claimed he was working for him has denied the allegation and provided his own account of what transpired.

According to the HK boss, the man was introduced to him by his wife’s brother as someone who needed accommodation and a place to work.

He said he agreed to accommodate him and claimed the man stayed in his residence for about six months.

During the period, he said he provided him with food and other necessities and also gave him a computer to use for work.

The HK boss alleged that the man later told him he was experiencing spiritual problems and needed money to seek help.

He said he was unable to provide the amount requested, after which the man asked him to help raise money by selling the phone he was using.

According to him, he agreed to assist and contacted people he knew in search of a buyer.

He claimed the phone was an old iPhone 11 with a weak battery, which affected its resale value.

He said the device was eventually sold for ₦90,000, adding that he intended to give the money to the man to enable him travel and attend to his personal challenges.

The HK boss also denied claims that he locked the man up or prevented him from leaving his residence.

He said he had made several attempts to assist the man but could no longer continue providing the financial support he was requesting.

The allegations and counterclaims could not be independently verified.
