Cameroonian Catholic Bishop Urges Women to Stop Pursuing Priests
The Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buea in Cameroon, His Lordship Michael Bibi, has urged women and girls in the diocese to stop pursuing priests for romantic relationships, stressing that Catholic priests are committed to a life of celibacy and will not marry.
Speaking during a pastoral engagement on July 30, 2026, Bishop Bibi expressed concern over what he described as unhealthy relationships between some women and priests within the diocese.
According to the bishop, some women continue to seek romantic relationships with priests despite their commitment to serving God and the Church.
He reminded the faithful that priests have freely embraced celibacy as part of their vocation and should be allowed to carry out their pastoral duties without unnecessary distractions.
Bishop Bibi encouraged women seeking marriage to direct their attention toward eligible single men, noting that there are many available for marriage within the community.
He called on members of the Church to respect the vocation of priests and support them in fulfilling their sacred responsibilities with dedication and focus.
